JAIPUR: Of
the over 3,000 workers sacked from the two-wheeler manufacturing unit of Honda
motors at Tapukara in Alwar district, 256 resumed work on Wednesday after
tripartite negotiations between workers, the Honda management and the labour
department of the state government arrived at a breakthrough during talks on
June 6.In talks earlier this week that labour commissioner CBS Rathore also
participated in, the workers and the management arrived at an agreement that
256 permanent employees would be reinstated. The workers had earlier alleged
that they had been victimized for attempts to register a union.Another meeting
on June 13 will discuss the fate of the other 2,800 workers also sacked on
February 16 this year, after police were called into the factory premises and
rained lathis on protesting workers. Over 100 workers were arrested on charges
that ranged from attempt to murder, looting and rioting. The workers said they
had been on protest after one of them had been roughed up. They said they had
been systematically victimized since August last year for attempts to register
a union.A press note issued by workers on Wednesday thanked the management and
the labour department for the positive outcome of the June 6 talks and
expressed confidence that the workers would get support in future too.Bookmark
